Women's Soccer Falls to Columbus State
COLUMBUS, GA -- Catawba hit the road for the first time this season and suffered a 5-0 defeat to host Columbus State at the CSU Classic on Friday night at the CSU Soccer Complex. The Cougars improve to 3-2, while the Catawba Indians fall to 2-1.
Catawba managed just two shots on the night, neither on goal, while the Cougars fired 23 times at the Lady Indian net. Columbus State grabbed the lead 15 minutes into the match then Sarah Hawkins scored the first of her two goals to give the hosts a 2-0 lead at the break.
Hawkins added her second tally three minutes into the second half, while Jessica Woodall and Rachel Walthall each had a goal and an assist in the final half. Lady Indian keeper Kathleen Blake (Greensboro, NC/NW Guilford HS) had 10 saves.
"We didn't do the basics very well tonight," stated Catawba coach John Cullen. "We did not defend well enough for the whole game. It is a big learning lesson and we will learn from it and move forward."
