Volleyball Rolls to Eighth Straight Win
SALISBURY, NC -- Catawba claimed its eighth straight win with a three-game sweep over visiting Limestone in volleyball action on Wednesday night at Goodman Gym. Catawba improves to 12-1, winning by the scores of 30-15, 30-16 and 30-27. The Saints fall to 4-9.
Melissa Powers (Bennett, NC/N. Moore HS) led Catawba with 17 kills and added a pair of blocks. Melissa Griffith (Williamsburg, VA/Lafayette HS) followed with 14 kills and had three aces. Mai Zoua Lo (Hickory, NC/Foard HS) and Tiffany Andrassy (Raleigh, NC/Sanderson HS) each had four aces, while senior setter Andi Henderson (Swansboro, NC/Swansboro HS) had 34 assists with six kills and seven digs.
Melissa Thomas (Easley, SC) led Limestone with 10 kills and four blocks, while Laura Kerrison (Charleston, SC) had 16 assists and two aces. Chelsea Anthony (Pickens, SC) had a dozen digs.
Limestone cut an early Catawba lead to 14-10 in the opening game, but three kills by Powers and consecutive aces by Lo helped the Lady Indians to a 23-12 edge and an easy win. Game two was tied 10-10 before a 13-3 run put Catawba in control. Griffith helped start the run with a pair of aces which was capped by four straight aces by Andrassy.
Three kills by Griffith helped Catawba to an early 10-4 lead in the deciding game. A Griffith ace and a kill by Powers had the Lady Indians up 22-15, but Limestone fought back to within 28-26, but a Henderson kill gave Catawba a match point and Powers killed off the game-winner.
