Schmehl Earns Medalist Honors, Helps Men's Golf to Fourth Place Finish
PROSPERITY, SC -- Sophomore Eric Schmehl (Shamong, NJ/Seneca HS) claimed medalist honors and helped Catawba to a fourth place finish on Saturday at the Mid-Carolina Invitational Men’s Golf Tournament. The one-day, two-round event was hosted by Newberry at the 6,679-yard, par-72 Mid-Carolina Country Club.
Schmehl was the lone player to fire two under-par rounds and finished with a 138 total to win by six shots over Newberry’s Ben Lown. Schmehl opened with a 70 in the morning round and followed that career best with an even lower 68 in the afternoon 18.
The rounds give Schmehl a share of the school two-round record for low score and low score to par which was also matched last week by senior Allen Tuttle (Arthur, TN/White Academy). It also marked the second straight tournament that the Tribe has produced the event medalist as Tuttle won last week at Anderson.
