Women's Tennis Opens New Season With 6-1 Win Over JC Smith
SALISBURY, NC -- The Catawba women's tennis team began its 2007-08 campaign with a 6-1 victory over visiting Johnson C. Smith University on Wednesday afternoon at Johnson Tennis Center. It was the first action for both schools.
Senior Meri Cartmill (W. Barnstable, MA/Barnstable HS) and freshman Kasia Zieinski (Erie, PA/Collegiate Academy) picked up wins in both singles and doubles. Zielinski won in straight sets at #2 singles and 8-3 at #1 doubles. Cartmill won her #3 singles match in straight sets and picked up an 8-2 win at #2 doubles. Jennifer Lee earned the lone point for the Lady Bulls at #1 singes, taking a 10-6 decision in a third set tiebreaker.
