Henderson Posts Record 83 Assists as Volleyball Takes Out Lander in Five Games
GREENWOOD, SC -- Catawba claimed a marathon five-game win over host Lander on Tuesday night at Horne Arena. Senior setter Andi Henderson (Swansboro, NC/Swansboro HS) set a new school record for assists in a match with 83 in the 30-26, 37-35, 33-35, 26-30 and 15-13 victory. The previous record of 75 was set by Ann Fulk in 2000. With the win, the Catawba Indians improve to 16-3, while the Bearcats fall to 11-5.
Catawba won the first two games then dropped the next two before taking the tight fifth game. Junior Melissa Powers (Bennett, NC/N. Moore HS) led Catawba with 31 kill, tying her season and career high. Melissa Griffith (Williamsburg, VA/Lafayette HS) added 23 kills and 26 digs.
Henderson added 13 digs, six kills and three blocks to her record-breaking assist total. She needs 354 assists to set the school career mark and would achieve the mark in three seasons. Nikki Bozick (Boca Raton, FL/W. Boca HS) led the Lady Indians in digs with 32, while Mai Zoua Lo (Hickory, NC/Foard HS) had 29 digs and 17 kills.
Sara Senn led Lander with 18 kills and 29 digs, while Kay Stewart totaled 19 kills and eight blocks. Andrea Griffin had 18 kills and six blocks with Candace LaRocca totaling 61 assists and 24 digs.
