Reynolds hits for school's first cycle in 54 years as Baseball rolls 23-15BELMONT, NC -- Junior Blair Reynolds (King, NC) become only the second Catawba to player to hit for the cycle as the Indians hammered host Belmont Abbey 23-15 in baseball action on Tuesday afternoon. “Red” Richardson is the only Catawba player to have been credited with hitting for the cycle and he accomplished the feat in 1948. Catawba improves to 7-4 with the win.Catawba scored an unearned run in the first, then Reynolds, the SAC Position Player of the Week, collected the first of his four hits with a two-run single with two-outs in the second to give the Tribe a 4-0 edge. The junior doubled home a run in a six-run fourth inning that broke the game open. Chad Hill (Bennett, NC), Curt Motsinger (Kernersville, NC), Spence Southard (Greensboro, NC) and Matt Baker (Charlotte, NC) also drove home runs in the frame to push the Tribe lead to 11-2. After Israel Morrow (Claremont, NC) tripled home a run in the fifth, Reynolds followed with a two-run home run and the Indian advantage ballooned to 15-3. Reynolds would not wait long for his chance at the cycle. Needing only a triple, Reynolds laced a ball down the right field line to get his three-bagger in the sixth inning. It capped a 4-for-7 day for Reynolds, who drove in six runs. Catawba held a comfortable 16-3 lead after six innings and added two more in the seventh to go on top 18-3. Tribe starter Brian Hatley (Salisbury, NC) departed after surrendering eight hits, with just two of the three runs earned. He walked one and stuck out five. Catawba bull pen was not as successful as the Crusaders scored four in the seventh, two on a home run by Jason Head. After the Tribe scored four in the eighth, Belmont Abbey fought back with six in its half to cut the margin to 22-13, but the outcome had been decided. In addition to Reynolds, Morrow and Matt Smith (Browns Summitt, NC) also collected four hits on the day and each had three RBI. Motsinger, Southard and Josh Jordan (Gastonia, NC) all had three hits. Catawba had 28 hits on the day, while the Crusaders had 20. #######
