Women's Soccer Rolls to 4-0 Win at Erkine
DUE WEST, SC -- Catawba picked a 4-0 shutout of host Erskine in women’s soccer action at Huggins Field on Wednesday night. The Catawba Indians improve to 7-2-2 and are unbeaten over their last seven matches. The Flying Fleet fell to 3-6.
Catawba scored two quick goals to take command. Senior Lauren Whiteley (Greensboro, NC/SE Guilford HS) scored as she found the net in the third minute directly off a corner kick. Junior Lainey Nichols (Frederick, MD/Middletown HS) added another tally 25 seconds later.
The Lady Indians would add a pair of second-half goals as Anna Hamilton (Kernersville, NC/E. Forsyth HS) scored in the 70th minute and Alyssa Schoenberg (Woodbury, MN/Woodbury HS) headed home a corner kick from Andrea Dunshie (Apex, NC/SE Raliegh HS) with a minute and a half to play.
"We recognized coming in that Erskine was shorthanded and a little depleted, but we were able to go out and work on our game and still be respectful to our opponent," stated Catawba coach John Cullen. "It was a chance for everybody to play and get some touches. Now we get back to conference play on Saturday."
