Women's Soccer Has Unbeaten Streak Snapped With 1-0 Loss at C-N
JEFFERSON CITY, TN -- Catawba had its seven-match unbeaten streak snapped with a 1-0 loss to host Carson-Newman in South Atlantic Conference women’s soccer action on Saturday afternoon at McCown Field. The Lady Eagles improve to 10-3 overall and 3-2 in the SAC, while the Catawba Indians fall to 7-3-2 and 3-1-1.
Katie Perea scored the lone goal in the 26th minute. Nyssa Griffin made the lead stand up with five saves in posting the shutout. Carson-Newman held a 24-9 edge in shots with Kathleen Blake (Greensboro, NC/SE Guilford HS) recording a dozen saves for the Lady Indians.
I thought we played hard, but we didn’t show a lot of poise and composure,” stated Catawba coach John Cullen. “I can’t fault the fact we were working hard to stay in the game and even at 1-0 down you always fell like you have a chance. For most parts of the game we were second best today. It was a lesson learned for a young team and we found out a little bit more about ourselves today.”
