GAFFNEY, SC -- Catawba scored a goal in each half and topped host Limestone 2-0 in women’s soccer action on Tuesday afternoon at Saints Field. The Catawba Indians improve to 11-4-2, while the Saints fall to 6-8-3.
Freshman Rochelle Poncin (Bradenton, FL/IMG Academy) got the Lady Indians on the board in the 15th minute for what proved to be the game-winner. Alexandra Beshk (Mission Viejo, CA/Mission Viejo HS) added a late insurance goal, scoring her team-leading 12th goal with two minute to play.
Kathleen Blake (Greensboro, NC/NW Guilford HS) pitched the shutout in goal for Catawba. She made two saves in posting her fourth clean sheet of the season. Brittany Clark made five saves for Limestone. Catawba held a 13-5 edge in shots and had nine corners to two for the Saints.
“It was a good road win,” stated Catawba coach John Cullen. “We were very solid and looked in control of the game. We just needed the insurance goal which we didn’t get until late. I felt we were pretty comfortable and defended well.”
