Men's Soccer Falls 2-1 at Francis Marion
FLORENCE, SC -- Francis Marion claimed a 2-1 win over visiting Catawba in men’s soccer action on Tuesday afternoon at the FMU Soccer Field. The Patriots improve to 5-11, while the Catawba Indians fall to 6-11.
Francis Marion snapped a scoreless tie with a pair of goals just before the hour. Justin Kibler headed home a corner kick in the 55th minute and Kyle Clinton headed in a cross from Joey Pineo in the 60th minute for a 2-0 edge.
Catawba pulled back a goal two minutes later after the Patriots failed to clear a corner kick by Ryan Villiard (Holiday, FL/Mitchell HS). Sam Ketner (Salisbury, NC/E. Rowan HS) corralled the loose ball and scored on an 18-yard blast for his third goal of 2007.
Patriot keeper Clark Richeson made two saves in taking the win. Ross Willard (Jacksonville, NC/Jacksonville HS) had three saves over the final 45 minutes, while Tyler Held (Virginia Beach, VA/Kellam HS) occupied the goal during the first half and compiled two saves for Catawba.
