Villiard's "Hat Trick" Leads Men's Soccer Past Brevard
BREVARD, NC -- Senior Ryan Villiard (Holiday, FL/Mitchell HS) scored three goals as Catawba closed out its regular season with a 4-1 win over host Brevard in men's soccer action on Saturday afternoon. The Catawba Indians improve to 7-11 and will open South Atlantic Conference tournament play on Tuesday on the road. The Tornados fall to 4-10-2.
Brevard struck first as Kyle Stanforth scored from an assist by Ian Townson at the 10:39 mark in the first half giving BC an early 1-0 advantage. Villiard drew the Indians level with only 3:21 remaining in the opening period on an assist from Connor Swartout (Suwanee, GA/N. Gwinnett HS).
Catawba took control after the break. Sam Ketner (Salisbury, NC/E. Rowan HS) found a wide open Villiard wide open in the front of the net to put the Indians up 2-1. Villaird then got his third of the day as he streaked down the right side off the field, finding the ball off a missed play by the Tornados defense and putting the ball into the net with only eight minutes remaining.
Garth McCormack (Charlotte, NC/C. Cabarrus HS) made the score 4-1 with a goal to the left side of the box with another assist from Ketner to make the final score 4-1. Brevard goalkeeper Trevor Redpath had nine saves, as he faced 22 shots on the day.
