Houston Scores 29 in Men's Basketball Exhibition Win Over Kazakhstan

SALISBURY, NC -- Catawba defeated the Astana Tigers of Kazakhstan 90-75 in a men’s basketball exhibition game on Tuesday night at Goodman Gym.  Sophomore Antonio Houston (Charlotte, NC/E. Mecklenburg HS) led the Catawba Indians with 29 points, including a 6-for-6 effort from behind the arc.

Catawba never trailed and broke away from a 7-7 tie on a jumper by Norman Monroe (Newport News, VA/Heritage HS), a three-pointer by Rob Fields (Orangeburg, SC/Orangeburg-Wilkerson HS) and a free throw by Houston for a 13-7 edge.  The Indians would push the lead to 16 in the opening frame at 36-20 and settled for a 47-39 lead at the break.

Kazakhstan cut the margin to 51-44 early in the second half, but a free throw by Monroe and two jumpers by Houston pushed the lead back to double-digits where it would stay the rest of the game.  Catawba’s biggest lead was 90-68 in the closing minutes.
