Schoenberg and Beshk Named to Women's Soccer All-Region Squad
Blake, Hinkle and Wollaston earn SAC All-Tournament honors
SALISBURY, NC -- Catawba placed two players on the 2007 Daktronics All-Southeast Region women’s soccer team and had three players named to the South Atlantic Conference all-tournament team which were announced this week. Junior defender Alyssa Schoenberg (Woodbury, MN/Woodbury HS) and sophomore forward Alexandra Beshk (Mission Viejo, CA/Mission Viejo HS) were the all-region picks, while seniors Kathleen Blake (Greensboro, NC/NW Guilford HS), Lindsay Hinkle (Highland, MD/River Hill HS) and Carrie Wollaston (Landenberg, PA/Ursuline Academy) were all-tournament selections.
Schoenberg was named to the Southeast Region first team after helping the Catawba defense post 10 shutouts this season and a 1.10 goals against average. She started all 21 matches for the Lady Indians and also added four goals and two assists.
Beshk, a second team all-region pick, led Catawba in scoring with 15 goals and added three assists. Five of her scores proved to be game winners. The 15 goals ties for the fifth best season total at Catawba.
In the SAC Tournament, Blake allowed just one goal over three matches and made a dozen saves in the championship match. The posted a 2-0 shutout of Lenoir-Rhyne in the semifinals and held Lincoln Memorial off the board and forcing a penalty kick shootout for the title. Hinkle had an assist in the first round win over Mars Hill and Wollaston was also a key on the defense.
