Volleyball Places Four on All-SAC Teams
ROCK HILL, SC -- Catawba placed four players on the 2007 South Atlantic Conference Volleyball teams, which were announced on Thursday night. Junior middle Melissa Powers (Bennett, NC/N. Moore HS) was a first team pick, while senior setter Andi Henderson (Swansboro, NC/Swansboro HS), junior hitter Melissa Griffith (Williamsburg, VA/Lafayette HS) and sophomore libero Nikki Bozick (Boca Raton, FL/W. Boca HS) were second team selections.
Powers leads the conference in hitting percentage and kills per game and set a new school mark for kills in a season with 628 entering the league tournament. She ranks fourth in NCAA II at 5.39 kills per game. The junior is adding 1.07 blocks per game with 30 service aces on the season and has moved into fifth place on the all-time kill list at Catawba with 1,331.
Henderson stands second in the SAC in assists at nearly13 per game, which stands 12th in the nation. The senior has recorded 1,506 on the season, ranking second in school history. She earlier set the school career mark, which now totals 4,020 and also established a new match record with 83 in a five-game win over Lander.
Griffith ranks second on the team in both kills (390) and digs (515). The junior leads the team with 40 aces and with 18 double-doubles. In four matches, she recorded 20+ kills and 20+ digs. Griffith went over the 1,000 kill mark for her career during the season and currently stands at 1,206.
Bozick ranks second in the SAC in digs at 5.3 per game. Her total of 660 this season stands second best all-time at Catawba. The sophomore is coming off a career-high effort of 42 digs in a loss to UNC Pembroke.
