Women's Tennis Signs Five for 2008-09 Season
SALISBURY, NC -- Catawba College tennis coach, Jeff Childress, has announced the signing of five women’s players for the 2008-09 season. The early signings are Steffi Cook (Alpharetta, GA), Candace Hall (Denver, NC), Meg Kittel (Burke, VA), Chrysten Maydak (Fairview, PA) and Kim Renspie (Tampa, FL).
Cook started three years at Milton High School and was an all-area selection. She twice qualified for the state tournament and had a 14-1 mark in doubles. Cook was a three-time scholar athlete.
Hall started all four year at East Lincoln High School. She was a three-time all-conference selection and was twice named league Player of the Year. Hall helped the Mustangs to a pair of conference championships, including a 17-1 mark as a senior. She was a named a scholar athlete all four years.
Kittel played three years at Robinson Secondary High School. She was named all-region and all-district and served as captain as a senior. Kittel played the #2 position as a junior and senior.
Maydak played the #3 position for two years at Fairview High School. She was a state medalist in the academic decathalon and has advanced to the semifinals of the Lake Shore Invitational Tennis Tournament.
Renspie has been a three-time honorable mention all-county selection entering her senior year. She has twice won the district singles championship and has earned regional titles in singles and doubles. As a sophomore, Renspie advanced to state semifinals in doubles and qualified for the state singles tournament.
