Three Named to NCCSIA All-State Volleyball Team
Catawba College led the way with three selections on the 2007 NCCSIA College Division All-State Volleyball Team. Repeating from last year was senior setter Andi Henderson (Swansboro, NC/Swansboro HS) and junior middle Melissa Powers (Bennett, NC/N. Moore HS). Junior hitter Melissa Griffith (Williamsburg, VA/Lafayette HS) earned the honor for the first time.
Powers was a first team selection, setting a school record in both kills (674) and kills per game (5.27). She led the South Atlantic Conference in kills and hitting percentage (.347), while ranking fourth and 35th in NCAA II, respectively. The junior also led the team with 139 blocks.
Henderson was a second team pick, setting a school mark with her 12.94 assists per game. That total ranked second in the SAC and 12th in NCAA II. The senior also set assist records during the season for assists in a game (83) and a career (4,119).
Griffith, also a second team selection, was second on the team with 416 kills. She ranked ninth in the SAC at 3.35 kills per game and sixth at 4.40 digs per game and had 20 double-double matches in kills and digs. She also led the team with 40 service aces.
