Women's Basketball Drops Third Straight With 69-63 Loss at Flagler
ST. AUGUSTINE, FL -- Catawba dropped its third straight game following a 69-63 loss to host Flagler in women’s basketball action on Saturday afternoon at Flagler Gym in the consolation game of the Flagler Saints Tournament. The Catawba Indians fall to 6-6, while the Saints improve to 3-11.
The Lady Indians cut a 12-point deficit to a single point in the final minutes, scoring seven straight points on a layup by NeKeithia Howard (Macon, GA/Northeast HS) and a three-pointer and layup by Sicilia LoSauro (Oviedo, FL/Oviedo HS), to cut the margin to 64-63 with 1:02 to go. Flagler grabbed a 65-63 lead on a free throw by Melanie Agulia with 20 seconds left, but a Catawba turnover and two free throws by Jalisa Foster iced the game for the Saints.
Catawba held as much as a five-point lead in the opening half and took a 33-32 lead at the break following Brooke Whitley’s (New London, NC/N. Stanly HS) jumper four seconds before the half. Flagler would open the second half on a 7-1 run and never trailed again.
An 8-0 run later in the half pushed the Flagler lead to 52-42 and a jumper by Sierra Jones gave Saints a 63-51 edge with 3:33 remaining. Catawba would mount its late rally from that point as a layup by Nisha Long (Dallas, NC/Gaston Day) and a three-pointer by LoSauro cut the deficit to 63-56.
Elizabeth Tuzzolo scored 27 points to pace Flagler, hitting on 4-of-6 from long range. Catawba got 17 points from Howard and a dozen from LoSauro.
