Women's Basketball Snaps Five-Game Skid Behind Career Night From Clark
Junior nets career-high 20 points with five steals
SALISBURY, NC -- Junior Cameron Clark (Albemarle, NC/N. Stanly HS) scored a career-high 20 points to spark Catawba to a 77-65 win over visiting Brevard in women’s basketball action on Wednesday night at Goodman Gym. The win snaps a five-game losing streak for the Catawba Indians, who improve to 7-8. The Tornados fall to 5-8.
Catawba jumped out to a quick 14-2 lead in the opening four minutes, but the Tornados rallied and tied the score at 22-all with 8:41 left in the half on a three-pointer by Courtney Brandon (Corona, CA). Clark answered with a three-pointer of her own and the Lady Indians never trailed again.
The Lady Indians scored the final 10 points of the half to grab a 41-26 edge at the break. Clark posted 14 in the opening half to surpass her old high mark of 12 points. Catawba would lead by 20 in the early moments of the second half and kept a double-digit lead the rest of the way. The closest Brevard would get would be at 11 points, the last at 69-58 with 4:18 remaining.
Cristi Bartlett (Camden, NC/Camden HS) followed Clark with 16 points and added six rebounds. NeKeithia Howard (Macon, GA/Northeast HS) had 11 points, seven boards and five assists. Clark added five steals and a pair of assists on the night.
Brandon led the Tornados with 14 points, while Samantha Winn (Candler, NC) added 11 points and six rebounds. Amanda Whitaker (Fairview, NC) also reached double figures with 10 points and dished out five assists.
Both teams shot 50% for the game as Catawba hit on 31-of-61 (50.8%) and Brevard 23-of-46 (50.0%). The Tornados had a slight 27-25 edge on the boards, but had 20 turnovers to just seven for Catawba. The Lady Indians held a 27-7 edge on points off turnovers.
