Women Win, Men Fall Against Limestone in Swim Meet
SALISBURY, NC -- The Catawba women took a 119-84 win over visiting Limestone, while the men fell 138-64 on Saturday at Johnson Pool. Kira Capano (Waynesville, NC/Tuscola HS) and Leigh Spada (Shelby, NC/Shelby HS) each won twice in individual events for the women, while Patrik Drakes (Stockholm, SWEDEN/Sodra Latin HS) earned the only win for the men.
Limestone opened the women’s meet with wins in the 200 medley and the 1000 free, but Catawba would win the next five events to take control. Capano won the 200 free (2:02.64) and Spada the 50 free (25.54). Meredith Shultz (Richmond, VA/James River HS) followed with a win in the 200 IM (2:21.00) before Capano (1:03.80 in the 100 fly) and Spada (55.04 in the 100 free) won their second events.
Dana Jaremko (Willow Springs, NC/Wake Christian Academy) took a win in the 500 free (5:31.00) and Katie Huff (New London, NC/N. Stanly HS) won the 100 breast (1:09.26). Spada, Huff, Jaremko and Capano also swam on the winning 200 free relay team to cap the meet.
Limestone won all but one event in claiming the men’s win with eight different swimmers claiming individual wins. Chris Harrigan, who won the 50 free, also swam on both relay winners. Drakes won for Catawba in the 200 IM (2:03.21). Drakes touched second in the 100 breast, while freshman Alex Walpole (Colorado Springs, CO/Cheyenne Mountain HS) had second place swims in the 1000 and 100 freestyle events.
