Lacrosse Drops Opener to #7 CW Post
SALISBURY, NC -- C.W. Post, ranked seventh in the pre-season USILA poll, defeated host Catawba 17-2 in men’s lacrosse action on Tuesday afternoon at Shuford Stadium. With the win, the Pioneers improve to 2-0, while the Catawba Indians fall to 0-1.
Greg Cerar (Farmingdale, NY) scored four of his six goals in the opening half as the Pioneers grabbed a 9-0 lead. It was 5-0 after a quarter, with three of the goals coming from Cerar, including two in the final minute.
Mike Cama (Levittown, NY), who won 14-of-15 face-offs, scored eight second into the second half and two more goals by Cerar built the CW Post lead to 13-0. Wayne Carbiener (Orlando, FL/Olympia HS) put Catawba on the board with 8:12 left in the third quarter. Freshman Marty Tuohy (Weymouth, MA/Weymouth HS) also scored for the Indians.
For the Pioneers, Nick Lacagnina (Farmingville, NY), Rob Renetta (E. Syracuse, NY) and Joe Meo (W. Sayville, NY) each had two goals. Thomas Maloney (Great Neck, NY) had four assists. Ben Huber (Westminster, MD/Westminster HS) had a dozen saves in goal for Catawba.
