BREVARD, NC -- Catawba closed out its regular season with an 86-61 win over host Brevard in women’s basketball action on Saturday afternoon at Boshamer Gym.  The Catawba Indians improve to 12-15 and will face Wingate in the opening round of the South Atlantic Conference tournament on Wednesday.  The Tornados end their season at 8-19.

The Tornados game out of the gates strong, taking an early 7-2 lead on a lay-up by sophomore Samantha Winn at the 16:28 mark.  Brevard held on to the lead over the next eight minutes of play, pushing their lead to as high as seven points again with 9:56 remaining in the first half.

The Lady Indians fought back to take their first lead of the game on a three-pointer by Hillary Hampton (Salisbury, NC/W. Rowan HS) at the 5:16 mark, and did not look back, pulling ahead of the Tornados by seven at 33-26 heading into the halftime intermission.

In the second half, Catawba caught fire.  The Lady Indians shot 56.3 percent from the floor and 50 percent from the three-point arc in the final 20 minutes of play to outscore the Tornados 53-35 in the second half.  The Lady Indians pushed their lead to 25 points at 86-61, the highest it had been, with only 18 seconds to go in the game, which would prove to be the final score.

In the last game of her collegiate career, Courtney Brandon led Brevard with a game-high 19 points, as she connected on five three-pointers for the game.  Fellow senior Holly Krogman had eight points, as she was 2-of-3 from the three-point line and 3-of-6 from the floor overall.

Catawba had five players in double-figures, led by NeKeithia Howard (Macon, GA/Northeast HS), who posted a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds.  Sicilia LoSauro (Oviedo, FL/Oviedo HS) had 15 points, while Cameron Clark (Albemarle, NC/N. Stanly HS) added 13 points off the bench for the Lady Indians.  Brooke Whitley (New London, NC/N. Stanly) and Hampton also reached double figures, adding 12 and 10 points, respectively.
