Cox, Darden grab league All-Freshman honors in Women's BasketballCatawba College's Ashley Cox (Richmond, VA) and Isiaette Darden (Wilson, NC) were named to the South Atlantic Conference All-Freshman team for women's basketball. The duo combined to start 31 games this season for Catawba, who returned just four players from its 2000-01 SAC Championship squad. Cox, of Byrd High School, averaged 3.9 assists to lead the Lady Indians, while ranking seventh in the league. She started 20 of her 26 games, missing two games with a knee injury in early January. Cox was fourth on the team, averaging 7.7 points per game and added nearly three rebounds. She scored her season high of 18 points in a 78-76 win over Wingate and reached double figures eight times. The freshman ranked fifth in the SAC in assist/turnover ration and was 11th in steals with 42. She also ranked among SAC leaders in three-pointers making one per game and hitting on 37.1% of her attempts. Darden of Beddingfield High School, started 11 of her 26 games after moving into the starting rotation late in the season. She was the teams fifth leading scorer at 7.4 per game, but averaged 11.7 points over the last 14 games. Her high of 22 points came in a 103-51 win over Newberry. Darden added 2.1 rebounds and 1.2 assists, while recording 31 steals. She hit on 41.6% of her shots and made eight three-pointers. She reached double figures in 11 games. Catawba posted a 21-7 record this season and finished second in the SAC. It marked the first time in school history that the women's basketball program had recorded consecutive 20-win seasons. The South Atlantic Conference is a NCAA II league comprised of eight schools in North Carolina, South Caroline and Tennessee. #######
