SALISBURY, NC -- Catawba swept both ends of a softball doubleheader from visiting Brevard on Wednesday afternoon at Whitely Field.  The Catawba Indians won the opener 11-6 and followed up with a 10-2 victory in the nightcap.  Catawba improves to 18-19, while the Tornados falls to 8-12.

Catawba used a five-run second inning to overcome a 3-0 deficit in the opener.  After scoring a run on a wild pitch, Beth Brooker (Fayetteville, GA) doubled home two more runs in the first to give Brevard the early lead.  With two outs in the second, the Lady Indians collected four straight hits to take the lead.  Cassie Markham (New Port Richey, FL/Mitchell HS) singled home two runs and Callie Gordy (Oak Ridge, NC/NW Guilford HS) singled home the tying run.

Ryann Baker (Rockwell, NC/E. Rowan HS) doubled home a run and Allie Marshall (Pleasant Garden, NC/SW Guilford HS) singled home the final run of the frame.  Brevard cut its deficit to 6-5 in the fourth on run-scoring singles by Lindsey Morgan (Mount Holly, NC) and Katie Thornburg (Lincolnton, NC), but Kathryn Geouge (Canton, NC/Pisgah HS) hit a two-run homer for Catawba in the fifth and the Lady Indians tacked on three unearned runs in the sixth for the final margin.

Rachel Christian (Buckingham, VA/Buckingham County HS) got the win, while Meghan Cobb (Richmond, VA/Lloyd Bird HS) earned the save as she allowed just one hit with five strikeouts over three innings of relief.  Markham and Gordy each had three hits for Catawba in the opener, while Thornburg and Kristin Tettemer (Newport, NC) had three hits for the Tornados.

Catawba jumped out quickly in game two.  Sarah VanBuskirk (Lutz, FL/Wesley Chapel HS) tripled home three runs and Baker added a RBI single for an early 4-0 lead after an inning.  Geouge and Marshall singled home runs in the second for a 6-0 edge.

Brevard scored on an error and a double by Thornburg in the third, but the Lady Indians tacked on four more runs in their third for the winning margin.  Cobb went the distance to claim the win.  She allowed two unearned runs off six hits with four strikeouts.

Gordy, Geouge and Marshall all had two hits for Catwaba in the nightcap.  Brevard got a pair of hits from Sarah Carlos (Eagle River, AK) and Amber Clontz (Hickory, NC) in a losing effort.
