FLORENCE, AL -- North Alabama won its second straight game over 26th-ranked Catawba as the Lions scored a run in the bottom of the ninth for an 8-7 win on Sunday afternoon at Lane Field.  UNA improves to 21-14, while the Catawba Indians fall to 28-14.

Trey Pollard singled home the winning run with one-out in the ninth to give UNA the win.  Josh Graham opened the inning with a walk and was sacrificed to second before Pollard delivered the game-winning single.  David Thomas (Winston-Salem, NC/Ledford HS) had tied the game in the eighth for the Indians with a two-out, two-run homer.  It capped a two-homer day for Thomas.

Jerry Sands (Clayton, NC/Smithfield-Selma HS) got Catawba off to a quick start with a two-run homer in the first, but UNA responded with three of its own in the initial frame.  Graham, Cole Mitchell and Matt Horton each delivered run-scoring singles.

Catawba went back on top after Chris Ahearn (Charlotte, NC/Providence HS) and Thomas hit back-to-back homers in the forth.  Craige Lyerly (Salisbury, NC/E. Rowan HS) added a RBI single in the fifth for a 5-3 Catawba lead.

Graham would bring the Lions back, closing the gap to a single run with a sacrifice fly in the fifth then swatting a three-run homer in the seventh for a 7-5 lead.  Thomas then hit his tying homer after Andrew O’Neal (King, NC/S. Stokes HS).

Thomas, Sands and Lyerly each had two hits for Catawba.  Graham had three this and five RBI to lead the Lions.  Collin Murphy had a pair of hits and scored three runs.
