McClimans Named Deep South Lacrosse Freshman of the Week
WINGATE, NC -- Catawba‘s Colin McClimans (Washington, DC/Maret School) has been named the Deep South Conference Freshman of the Week, joining Wingate’s Kyle Costello (Wilmington, NC) and Evan Schaller (Kirkville, NY), who were the Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week. It was announced by league officials on Monday.
McClimans, a goalie, stepped in for injured starter Ben Huber and helped the Indians to a pair of league wins this past week. On Friday, McClimans played into the third quarter in a 22-2 win over Rollins and had four saves, while only allowing two goals. On Sunday, the freshman had six stops while allowing only four goals as Catawba topped Saint Leo to remain unbeaten in DSC play. For the week, McClimans posted 10 saves with a .625 save percentage.
Costello racked up seven goals and three assists on the week, helping lead the ninth-ranked Bulldogs to a 2-0 record. Schaller anchored the defense and collected 13 ground balls on the week.
