Baseball Receives Bid to NCAA II South Region Tournament
INDIANAPOLIS, IN -- Catawba College was one of 48 teams named to the field for the 2008 NCAA II Baseball Tournament. Catawba (40-16) received one of three at-large bids and will face Florida Tech (35-18-1) in its opening game of the South Region Tournament. The tournament will be hosted by the University of Tampa and will runs May 15-18.
For the first time, the South Atlantic Conference will send three teams to regional play. Tusculum (40-13) will play fellow league member Carson-Newman (41-16) on Thursday, while host Tampa (38-9-1) will face Stillman (26-24). Game times will be announced later on Monday.
It marks the second time in three years and third time in the past five seasons that the Indians have made the post-season tournament. Catawba also made the trip to Tampa in 2006 and advanced to the regional final.
This season, Catawba won the regular season SAC Championship and reached 40 wins for the third time in school history. Florida Tech and Carson-Newman joined the Indians will at-large bids.
