Held Named to Mount Olive Classic All-Tournament Team
Catawba goalkeeper Tyler Held (Virginia Beach,VA/Kellam) was named to the Sleep Inn All-Classic Team over the weekend, hosted by Mount Olive. Catawba dropped both matches, but Held recorded six saves over 90 minutes of action.
Catawba played Mount Olive, now ranked sixth in the region, in a tight contest on Saturday. The Trojans scored the game-winner in the 82nd minute and preserved the win with a dramatic save with 44 seconds left. Mount Olive broke a scoreless tie early in the first half and Catawba had a goal waived off by an offside call in the 18th minute.
Andrew Landry headed in a loose ball to even the match at 1-1 at the 27:30 mark and the match remained tied at the half. Mount Olive withstood a flurry of attacks early in the second half as Catawba was unable to capitalize on a corner kick and a restart deep in the Trojan half. The Trojans were able to pressure later in the half, but Held kept the match tied with five second-half saves for Catawba, coming off his line for kick saves on two shots from inside the box. Held entered the contest to start the second half.
Catawba threatened to send the match into overtime when Alex Koslick struck from 20 yards out, but the ball was tipped the ball over the crossbar and Mount Olive was able to clear the ball out on the ensuing corner kick. Mount Olive outshot the Indians 16-10, including an 11-6 advantage in the second half.
