Women's Soccer Shutout by Barton
Lady Indians fall despite holding 28-2 edge in shots
WILSON, NC – Despite being out-shot 28-2, host Barton held on to upset 11th-ranked Catawba 1-0 in women’s soccer action on Wednesday night at the Barton Soccer Complex. Both teams now stand at 1-1.
Catawba held a 15-0 edge in shot in the opening half, but Barton keeper Ashley Gregory turned away all six on goal. She added seven more off 13 Lady Indian shots in the final half. Catawba also produced six corners to none for Barton.
The lone goal came just past the hour as Allie Wilkerson took a through ball from Dillon Sauls to net the winner in the 62nd minute. It was the only one of the two Bulldog shots on net.
"The Barton goalkeeper was outstanding tonight," stated Catawba Coach John Cullen. "We lacked composure and a killer touch around the goal which we will need to work on."
