Women's Soccer Rolls to 8-0 Win at Converse
SPARTANBURG, SC -- Catawba got goals from six different players in an 8-0 win over host Converse on Saturday night. The win improves the 11th-ranked Catawba Indians to 3-1, while the Valkyries fall to 0-4.
Freshman Alanna Hantho (McLean, VA/Langley HS) gave Catawba the early lead just 1:27 into the match and Catawba went on to lead 4-0 at the break. Freshman Lena Suarez (Charlotte, NC/Hopewell HS) scored two first-half goals and Lainey Nichols (Frederick, MD/Middletown HS) closed out the scoring before the break.
In the second half, Kenley Streetman (Mooresville, NC/Mooresville HS) scored two goals for a 6-0 edge, Andrea Dunshie (Apex, NC/SE Raleigh HS) and Alyssa Retundie (Mooresville, NC/Lake Norman HS) closed out the scoring. Catawba out-shot Converse 35-0.
“We were able to give all of our field players a good 45 minutes each which was important because we wanted to build our match fitness levels,” said Catawba Coach John Cullen. “In that since, the match was very productive. We looked excited about getting forward tonight so hopefully we can carry that into next week.”
