Women's Soccer Give Cullen 100th Career Win With 5-1 Victory Over Erskine
SALISBURY, NC -- Catawba posted a 5-1 win over visiting Erskine in women’s soccer action on Wednesday night at Frock Field, giving Coach John Cullen his 100th career victory. The win improves the Catawba Indians to 3-1, while the Flying Fleet fall to 0-3.
Senior Lainey Nichols (Frederick, MD/Middletown HS) put Catawba up early just 1:29 into the match, but Erskine equalized in the 17th minute when Amanda Tinker (Woodruff, SC) lofted a shot from 25 yards into the upper right corner. The Lady Indisn retook the lead in the 25th minute as Paige Harrington (Albemarle, NC/Albemarle HS) volleyed home a cross from Kaitlyn McFarland (Indian Harbour Beach, FL/Satellite HS).
Alyssa Schoenberg (Woodbury, MN/Woodbury HS) gave Catawba a two-goal cushion at the break as she headed home a corner kick from Nichols in the 32nd minute. Catawba added two goals in the final half. Tasha Wilhelm (Mt. Savage, MD/Beall HS) tapped home a cross from Andrea Dunshie (Apex, NC/SE Raleigh HS) and Dunshie scored one of her own, heading home a cross from Alyssa Retundie (Mooresville, NC/Lake Norman HS).
Jordan Lawson (Cross Anchor, SC) collected 10 saves in goal for Erskine, while Catawba counterpart Lindsay Webster (Hopkinton, MA/Hopkinton HS) had a pair of saves for the Lady Indians. Catawba held a 37-4 edge in shots and a 14-0 advantage in corners.
“I am very pleased with the team’s performance tonight,” stated Coach John Cullen. “I thought we were very sharp from the opening whistle and I’m proud of the way they went about the game.”
On 100 wins – “I would like to give a special thank you to all the players I’ve had the good fortune to work with since my time here at Catawba and the staff that has worked along side me. I share the 100 wins with them and the great work over the years.”
