Women's Soccer Takes Shutout Over Milligan

SALISBURY, NC -- Catawba defeated visiting Milligan College 2-0 in women’s soccer action on Monday night at Frock Field.  The win improves the Catawba Indians to 4-1, while the Lady Buffs fall to 3-2-1.

After a scoreless first half, Catawba’s Nikki Blackwelder (Asheville, NC/Asheville HS) found herself alone at the top of the box, dribbled in, collected a rebound off her first shot and scored just 38 seconds into the second half.  Nine minutes later, Paige Harrington (Albemarle, NC/Albemarle HS) gave the Lady Indians an insurance goal.

Freshman Sarah Mosier (Bel Air, MD/John Carroll HS) recorded her second shutout of the season without making a save.  Catawba held a 21-2 edge in shots.  Rosanna Couture (Oakville, CANADA) had 11 saves for Milligan.

“It was a great team performance tonight,” stated Catawba Coach John Cullen.  “We played with good intensity and energy, passing the ball well and looking dangerous going forward.  Milligan is a solid team and made it a hard-fought game for us.  I was very pleased with the way Nikki Blackwelder took a goal, showing great composure.  It was a good solid team win.”
