Harrington's Late Goal Lifts Women's Soccer to Win Over Chowan
MURFREESBORO, NC -- Catawba got a late goal from Paige Harrington (Albemarle, NC/Albemarle HS) and claimed a 2-1 win over host Chowan in women’s soccer action on Wednesday afternoon at the Hawks Soccer Complex. With the win, the Catawba Indians move to 5-1, while the Hawks fall to 4-3.
Freshman Erinn Wescoat (Egg Harbor, NJ/Absegami HS) scored in the 12th minute to give the Lady Indians a 1-0 edge. It was the only goal of the opening half, despite a 23-5 edge by Catawba in shots.
Chowan equalized at the 81:40 mark on a penalty kick by Ashley Bradford. Three minutes later Harrington converted after a Catawba corner kick with an assist from Chelsea Binder (Woodstock, MD/Mount Hebron HS)for the game winner.
The Lady Indians held a commanding 46-7 edge in shots. Kristy Brown recorded 19 saves for the Hawks. Lindsay Webster (Hopkington, MA/Hopkington HS) had three saves for Catawba.
"We made hard work of it today'" said Catawba Coach John Cullen. "We were not particularly sharp in front of goal. We had numerous chances, but our finishing today lacked the composure and quality we have had of late."
