Men's Soccer Rolls to 4-1 Win at Chowan
MURFREESBORO, NC -- Catawba scored three second-half goals to pull away from host Chowan and take a 4-1 victory in men’s soccer action on Wednesday afternoon at the Hawks Soccer Complex. The Catawba Indians improve to 2-4 with the win, while the Hawks stay winless at 0-7.
Freshman Tim Finotti (Hendersonville, NC/W. Henderson HS) scored the lone goal of the opening half, taking a pass from fellow freshman Kevin Sorensen (Matthews, NC/Butler HS) in the 38th minute. The Indians had 15 shots to just five for Chowan in the opening 45 minutes, but would score three on 12 second-half shots.
Chad Villiard (Holiday, FL/Mitchell) gave the Tribe an insurance goal just past the hour mark then Kyle Ganow (State College, PA/State College Area HS) and Dustin Johnson (Mooresville, NC/Lake Norman HS) added goals less than a minute apart with just under 20 minutes remaining.
The Hawks avoided the shutout with Zach Rahama’s strike with 10 minutes to play. Tyler Held (Virginia Beach, VA/Kellam HS) posted six saves in goal for Catawba, while Josh Cenci also made six saves for Chowan.
