Men's Soccer Falls on Late UNCP Goal
SALISBURY, NC -- Junior Rondell Honora (Charlotte, NC) scored with just over seven minutes to play to lift visiting UNC Pembroke to a 2-1 win over Catawba in men’s soccer action on Saturday afternoon at Frock Field. The win improves the Braves to 5-3, while the Catawba Indians fall to 2-5.
Honora had just missed high at an open goal a minute before netting his game-winner. Tyler Held (Virginia Beach, VA/Kellam) made two excellent saves four minutes before the winning tally to keep the Indians tied, but UNCP held an 11-2 edge in shots in the final half.
Miguel Ferrer (Miami, FL) had given the Braves a lead in the 10th minute which held up until Catawba equalized in the 65th minute. Freshman Kevin Sorensen (Matthews, NC/Butler HS) scored as he volleyed home a cross from Alex Koslick (Matthews, NC/Providence HS).
UNCP would control the action from there with several near misses and fine saves from Held until the winning goal came from Honora. Held had seven saves for the Indians, while UNCP counterpart Horatio Bynes (Richlands, NC) had three saves.
