Cook and Dameron Combine for Three Points In Women's Tennis 5-4 Loss to Meredith
SALISBURY, NC – Meredith’s Brooke Baird won a third-set tiebreaker at #1 singles to lift the Avenging Angels to a 5-4 win over host Catawba in women’s tennis action on Tuesday afternoon at the Johnson Tennis Center. Meredith wins is first dual match, while the Catawba Indians fall to 3-2.
Catawba grabbed a 2-1 lead after doubles behind a 9-8 win from Meg Kittle (Burke, VA/Robinson HS) and Kim Renspie (Tampa, FL/Academy of the Holy Names) at #2 and a victory at #2 by Steffi Cook (Alpharetta, GA/Milton HS) and Jennifer Dameron (Siler City, NC/Jordan-Matthews HS). Meredith battled back in singles, taking four of six matches.
Morgan Martin, who teamed with Kathryn Maples for a win at #1 doubles, claimed a straight-set win at #2 singles and Baird battled back after dropping the first set in a tie-breaker to top Renspie in a super tie-breaker. Cook and Dameron also won in singles for Catawba.
