Men's Soccer Falls 4-0 at Newberry
NEWBERRY, SC -- Debola Ogunseye (Lagos, NIGERIA) scored three goals to lead Newberry to a 4-0 victory over visiting Catawba in South Atlantic Conference men's soccer action on Wednesday afternoon at the Newberry Soccer Complex. Newberry improves to 4-8-1 overall and 4-1-1 in the SAC, while the Catawba Indians fall to 3-10 and 1-4.
Ogunseye opened the scoring in the 12th minute on a give-and-go with Jarvis Snyder (Alexandria, LA). Despite a 23-5 edge in shot, Newberry was able to penetrate the Indians goal just once in the half as Ross Willard (Jacksonville, NC/Jacksonville HS) picked up seven saves.
Newberry would get a two-goal cushion in the 58th minute. Willard blocked a penalty kick from Ogunseye, but the striker recovered and headed in the rebound. Ogunseye got his third goal just six minutes later, chipping over Williard for a 3-0 lead.
Kwame Gyamfi (Accra, GHANA) finished off the scoring in the 73rd minute. Willard made nine saves in his 68 minutes of action in goal for Catawba. Josh Payne (Candler, NC/Enka HS) finished up the match and had five stops. Newberry held a 46-7 edge in shots.
