SALISBURY, NC -- Tusculum, ranked fifth in NCAA II, claimed a 4-0 win over host Catawba in South Atlantic Conference men’s soccer action on Wednesday night at Frock Field. The Pioneers improve to 13-1-1 overall and 5-1-1 in the SAC, while the Catawba Indians fall to 3-12 and 1-6.
Bruno Conceicao (Valenca, BRAZIL) scored a pair of first half goals to get the Pioneers started. His first came at the 7:35 mark, taking a cross from Nick Rich (Kent, ENGLAND) 15 yards from goal and placing it to the lower left for the 1-0 edge.
The Pioneers got a two-goal cushion in the 15th minute as Conceicoa took a through ball from Anteneh Lemma (Stockholm, SWEDEN) which put him in one-on-one against Catawba keeper Tyler Held (Virginia Beach, VA/Kellam HS). The senior chipped over Held for the goal.
Scott Lucky (Orangevale, CA) pushed the margin to 3-0 on a 30-yard free kick at the 56:31 mark. Telmo Dantes (Banjul, THE GAMBIA) tallied the final goal on a sharp angle in the 70th minute.
Tusculum held a 25-8 edge in shots. Held finished with eight saves for Catawba, while Lance Moore (Morristown, TN) saved a pair of shots for the Pioneers for his ninth shutout. The Indians have been held scoreless over their last five matches.
