Men's Soccer Ends Scoreless Drought, But Falls To FMU
SALISBURY, NC -- Francis Marion extended its non-losing streak to 12 matches, defeating host Catawba 4-2 in men’s soccer action on Tuesday night at Frock Field. The win improves the Patriots to 10-4-3 and 10-0-2 over its last dozen outings. The Catawba Indians fall to 3-13.
Kyle Clinton (Clearwater, FL) put FMU on top with a penalty kick in the 14th minute. Catawba freshmen Alex Koslick (Matthews, NC/Providence HS) drew the Indians even in the 31st minute, collecting a loose ball in the box.
The Patriots regained the lead by the break, striking just four minutes after Catawba had equalized. Tribe keeper Tyler Held (Virginia Beach, VA/Kellam HS) stopped an initial shot by Juan Rivas (Clearwater, FL), but Jared Beauchamp (Marietta, GA) was in position for the rebound.
The scored stayed 2-1 until the final 10 minutes. Ivan Juric (Toronto, Ont., CANADA) put home a feed from Rivas at the 81:19 mark for a 3-1 Patriot lead, but Catawba tallied 30 seconds later to pull back within a goal. Kirby Freeland (Matthews, NC/Providence HS) one-timed a cross from Koslick that got under FMU keeper Clark Richeson (Mansfield, TX).
Francis Marion regained its two-goal lead in the 85th minute as Adrian Sikorski (Inglewood, ONT, CANADA) broke free and dribbled in from 40 yards out. Richeson made just one save for FMU, who held a 24-5 edge in shots. Held stopped 10 shots for the Indians.
