Cuthbertson Paces Football To Win Over Brevard
SALISBURY, NC -- Senior Jamelle Cuthbertson (Charlotte, NC/Harding HS) ran for 156 yards and two scores to lead Catawba to a 24-10 win over visiting Brevard in South Atlantic Conference football action on Saturday afternoon at Shuford Stadium and Kirkland Field. The win improves the Catawba Indians to 5-4 overall and 3-3 in the SAC, while the Tornados fall to 1-8 and 0-6. Cuthbertson also moved over 2,000 yards in his career with the Indians.
Catawba scored first on a 31-yard field goal by Thomas Trexler (Wilmington, NC/New Hanover HS) midway through the first quarter. Brevard answered with a 24-yard kick from Chase Henry Franklin, NC). Pleasant HS) with just 52 seconds left before the break. That pass play would be the longest by either team on the day. Cuthbertson finished the first half with 123 yards, marking the sixth time he has reached the plateau this season to tie Andre Marshall’s school record.

Brevard got on the board with 10:05 remaining as Desmond Wilson (Mt. Holly, NC) capped a nine-play, 45-yard drive with a three-yard-run. The Tornados would get the ball back twice, but had possessions end on fumbles caused by Marqus Davis (Charlotte, NC/N. Mecklenburg HS) and Terrence Porter (Roanoke Rapids, NC/Roanoke Rapids HS).
