Baseball bats silent in doubleheader losses to PCCLINTON, SC -- Presbyterian College swept a doubleheader from Catawba in South Atlantic Conference baseball action on Friday afternoon at the PC Baseball Complex. The Blue Hose won by the scores of 2-0 and 6-2 in improving to 15-20 overall and 6-5 in the SAC. Catawba fell to 19-15 and 5-5. Junior Richard Barkley (Sumter, SC) tossed a one-hit shutout to lead Presbyterian to the game one win. The lone hit was a lead-off single by Israel Morrow (Claremont, NC) in the fourth inning. Barkley walked two and struck out nine. Catawba's Zach Snyder (Lexington, NC) nearly matched Barkley as he allowed just three hits with no walks and four strike outs, but a bad first inning in the field led to the loss. Third baseman Blair Reynolds (King, NC) made two throwing errors to open the game and after a hit batter, another error by Reynolds allowed the first run to score. A groundout by Tombo Hite (Abbeville, SC) scored the second run. After the last error by Reynolds, Snyder sat down 15 batters in a row until a single by Chris Turco (Marietta, GA) to start the sixth. He was erased on an ensuing double play and Snyder kept the Blue Hose off the bases until the ninth, when PC got two singles, but Morrow threw a runner out at the plate to kept the game at 2-0. Presbyterian would grab the early lead in game two and never trailed. In the second, James Gritter (Ft. Lauderdale, FL) singled with two outs, stole second, and scored on a single by Curtis Bell (Gilbert, SC). A RBI double by Kevin White (Spartanburg, SC) and a sacrifice fly by Heath McCutcheon (Newberry, SC) in the third extended the lead to 3-0. Catawba scored twice in the got a two-run homer by Chad Hill (Bennett, NC) in the fourth, but White answered for the Blue Hose in the fifth with a three-run shot of his own. White accounted for four RBI in the win, while Hite colleced three hits. Morrow, Hill and Matt Baker (Charlotte, NC) had two hits each for the Tribe. #######
