Higgins Knocks Down 18 Points As Women's Basketball Topples King In Opener
GREENEVILLE, TN -- The Catawba College women's basketball team opened its season with an 85-47 win over King College on Saturday night at the Lady Pioneer Classic at Pioneer Arena. Catawba placed five players in double figures.
Brittany Higgins (Tacoma Park, MD/Blair HS) led Catawba with a game-high 18 points on 7-of-15 shooting. Brooke Whitley (New London, NC/N. Stanly HS) and Nisha Long (Dallas, NC/Gaston Day) each poured in 16 points for Catawba. Pamela Muldrow (Jacksonville, NC/Southwest HS), hauled down a team-high eight rebounds, while Long dished out four assists for the Catawba Indians.
Ashley Deans led the Tornado with 16 points, as Kristi Moody and Allison Bosse added 13 and 12 points, respectively. Crista Burtnett recorded a team-high eight rebounds, and Moody dished out a squad-best four assists.
Catawba jumped out to an early 15-6 lead in the first six and a half minutes of the game, and utilized an 11-2 run over the final five minutes to take a 39-19 lead into the break. The Catawba Indians continued their strong play in the second half, opening a 63-39 lead after 11 minutes of play in the second 20 minutes.
