Swimming Takes Wins Over Pfeiffer, Falls To Rollins In Double Duel Meet


SALISBURY, NC -- Catawba picked up wins over Pfeiffer, but lost to Rollins in a men’s and women’s double duel meet on Saturday afternoon at Johnson Pool.  The Catawba women topped Pfeiffer 60-35 and lost to Rollins 54-41.  The Tribe men beat Pfeiffer 57-38 and lost to Rollins 51-47.  The Rollins women beat Pfeiffer 76-19 and the men won 63-32 over the Falcons.

The Catawba women got a win from Meredith Shultz (Richmond, VA/James River HS) in the 1650 free (19:16.83) with Brittany Harrigan (Ruscon, Ontario, CANADA/Essex District HS) swimming a lifetime beset of 20:07.44 in finishing fourth.  Shultz also won the 500 free (5:30.06).

Also earning two wins for the women was Kat Kearney (Wilmington, NC/New Hanover HS).  The freshman took first in the 50 free (25.92) and 100 free (57.10).  Katie Huff (New London, NC/N. Stanley HS) claimed a win in the 100 breast (1:09.70).  Huff a lifetime best in the 100 fly (1:03.29) in finishing second.  Lira Capano (Waynesville, NC/Tuscola HS) had a runner-up finish in the 200 IM (2:19.48), while Kara Morrill (Rockville, MD/Rockville HS) had a lifetime best in her third place finish in the 200 free  (2:07.51).

The men took first in three events.  Alex Walpole (Colorado Springs, CO/Cheyenne Mountain HS) won in the 200 free (1:48.99), while Patrik Drakes (Stockholm, SWEDEN/Rudbechs Gymnasium) won twice, taking top honors in the 100 back (55.23) and the 100 breast (1:01.62).

Grant Gibson (Owen Sound, BC, CANADA/West Hill HS) was second in both the 200 free (1:49.51) and the 500 free (4:58.49).  Drakes was second in the 200 IM (2:02.22) and Patrick Novak (Bethleham, PA/Liberty HS) took second in the 50 free (22.63).
