Fields Named SAC Men's Basketball Player Of The Week
ROCK HILL, SC -- Junior Rob Fields (Orangeburg, SC/Orangeburg-Wilkerson HS) has been named the South Atlantic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending Nov. 30. It was announced by league officials on Monday.
Fields, a reserve guard, averaged 18.0 points and shot 89 percent (16-of-18) from the free throw line in leading Catawba to a 3-0 mark last week with victories over St. Augustine's (86-83), Bowie State (87-70) and No. 5 Northern Kentucky (86-81). The Tribe’s sixth-man started the week by scoring 14 of his 17 points after break in the win over St. Augustine's Monday afternoon at Time Warner Cable Arena in Charlotte, NC.
In the OrthoCarolina Classic in Wingate, NC, over the weekend, Fields scored 20 points against Bowie State on Saturday before notching 17 points in the victory versus #5 Northern Kentucky Sunday. Fields hit a key three-pointer down the stretch and a jumper with 28 seconds remaining in the upset win over the Norse.
Catawba is now 6-0 on the year and ranked No. 23 in the NABC NCAA Division II Top 25 Poll. Fields is averaging 15.7 points per contest so far this year.
