Men's Basketball Game at UNC Asheville Available on Video Stream
Catawba travels to UNC Asheville on Saturday afternoon for its first match-up with a NCAA I team since the 1995-96 season when the Indians played Furman and Appalachian State. Tip-off is set for 4:30 p.m. at the Justice Center. The game will be video-streamed for a small fee on The Edge at www.bigsouthsports.com.
The Bulldogs are 3-5 and have lost three straight games. They are led in scoring by senior forward Reid Augst with a 14.0 average. Freshman guard J.P. Primm had his first double-double with 14 points and a career-high 13 assists last Saturday in a loss to VMI. Primm leads the Big South in assists with a 6.5 per game mark.
Catawba is led by junior forward Antonio Houston with a 20.1 scoring average. He has scored more than 20 points in six games this year. Junior guard Ron Fields comes off the bench and is averaging 16 points per game. Both have earned league Player of the Week honors this year.
Catawba leads the series 4-1 and it will mark the first meeting between the teams since the 1983 District 26 championship game, won by the Indians 74-55. Catawba last defeated a NCAA I team on Dec. 6, 1960 with a 54-52 win at Davidson. Two legendary coaches matched off against one another that day. Sam Moir guided Catawba and Lefty Driesell coached Davidson, each in their first season.
