Women's Basketball Stays Hot Away From Home, Downs LMU 74-66


HARROGATE, TN – Catawba stormed back from a 14-point first-half deficit and defeated host Lincoln Memorial 74-66 in South Atlantic Conference women’s basketball action on Wednesday night at Turner Arena.  The Catawba Indians improve to 11-6 overall (7-1 away from home) and 3-3 in the SAC.  The Lady Railsplitters fall to 6-11 and 1-6.

Lincoln Memorial scored the opening 11 points and cruised to a 28-14 edge with 8:11 before the break following one of four first-half three-pointers from Stephanie Wagner.  Down 32-21, Catawba used a 17-3 run, capped by a three-pointer by Kisha Long (Dallas, NC/Gaston Day) to grab its first lead at 38-35.  The Lady Indians led 40-38 at the break.

The Lady Railsplitters led only briefly in the second half, the last time following a Bonnie DeBusk basket with 14:12 left at 52-51.  Cameron Clark (Albemarle, NC/N. Stanly HS) scored three straight hoops, which ignited a 20-1 run that pushed the Lady Indians edge to 71-53 with 5:46 left.

LMU rallied to within six with an 11-0 run to cut the margin to 72-66 with 1:10 remaining, but Dana Hicks (York, SC/Gaston Day) canned a pair of free throws with 43 seconds remaining and the Lady Railsplitters missed on two shot attempts with a half minute to go.  Catawba is a perfect 26-of-26 at the line in the final two minutes and overtime when the margin is single digits.

Pamela Muldrow (Jacksonville, NC/Southeast HS) led Catawba with 15 points, while Clark added 14.  Nisha Long (Dallas, NC/Gaston Day) scored a dozen points and dished out eight assists.  Amberly O’Dell led the Lady Railsplitters with 19 points, hitting on five 3-pointers.  Wagner scored all 12 of her points in the in the opening half on shots from behind the arc.

Catawba shot just 35% in the second half, but for the game enjoyed a 41-36 edge on the boards and were a +10 in turnover margin.  LMU Connected on 11 three-pointers, but went to the line only twice in the contest.
