#11 Men's Basketball Suffers First League Defeat at LMU
HARROGATE, TN -- Lincoln Memorial shot 52.5% from the field and rolled past #11 Catawba, claiming an 85-70 win in South Atlantic Conference men’s basketball action on Wednesday night at Turner Arena. The Railsplitters improve to 9-7 overall and 4-2 in the SAC, while the Catawba Indians fall to 13-4 and 5-1.
Catawba ran out to an early 18-4 lead in the opening seven minutes, but LMU scored 11 straight points to cut the lead to three then tied the score at 28-all on a three-pointer by Stuart Miller with 4:45 left before the break. The Railsplitters went on to a 25-38 lead and held a 40-34 edge at the break.
LMU pulled away midway through the final half using a 7-0 run to grab a 57-43 lead with just over 10 minutes remaining. Catawba got within 59-54, but Lincoln Memorial answered and built the lead to 16 at 76-60 with 3:24 to go.
D’Mario Curry led the way for LMU, coming off the bench to post a double-double of 22 points and 17 rebounds, while Wadner Joseph had a game-high 23 points. Brandon Armstrong also delivered a double-double with 15 points and 10 boards.
Dominick Reid (Charlotte, NC/Cannon School) paced Catawba with 22 points. Antonio Houston (Charlotte, NC/E. Mecklenburg HS) followed with 13 and Donald Rutherford (Morganton, NC/Freedom HS) had a dozen
The Indians shot just 38% and hit only 31% in the second half. LMU also enjoyed a hefty 46-33 edge on the boards.
