Higgins Scores 21 In Women's Basketball's Loss To Wingate
SALISBURY, NC -- Wingate guards Anna Atkinson (Marion, NC) and Kurie Washington (Marion, NC) each scored 24 points to lead the Bulldogs past host Catawba 95-80 in South Atlantic Conference women’s basketball action on Wednesday night at Goodman Gym. The Bulldogs improve to 13-8 overall and 4-6 in the SAC, while the Catawba Indians fall to 12-8 and 4-5.
Wingate won the battle at the line, canning 32-of-43, with the Lady Indians converting 20-of-27 tries. Atkinson and Washington combined to go 24-of-27 from the stripe. Wingate grabbed the lead late in the first half and never trailed after the break.
The first half featured 18 lead changes and 10 ties with Stacie Rhodes (Raleigh, NC) putting Wingate ahead to stay at 37-35 on a layup with 2:14 to go in the opening half. Catawba cut the lead to a single point several times in the second half before a 7-0 run gave Wingate a 69-59 edge with 9:20 left. The Lady Indians never got closer than five the rest of the way.
Brittany Higgins (Takoma Park, MD/Blair HS) led Catawba with 21 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Pamela Muldrow (Jacksonville, FL/Southwest HS) came off the bench to add a dozen points, while Cameron Clark (Albemarle, NC/N. Stanly HS) scored 11 points with six rebounds.
