Swimming Open Bluegrass Mountain Championships WIth Swims in 1000 Free
CHARLOTTE, NC -- The Catawba swim teams began action in the Bluegrass Mountain Conference Championships on Wednesday night at the Mecklenburg Aquatic Center. The championships run through Saturday and event updates can be found throughout the week through the Catawba live stats page.
Grant Gibson (Owen Sound, BC, CANADA/West Hill HS) had the best swim on the opening night as he placed 10th in the men’s 1000 free with a time of 10:04.03. Alex Walpole (Colorado Springs, CO/Cheyenne Mountain HS) finished 16th (10:20.13) and Christopher Daley (North Andover, MA/N. Andover HS) was 18th (10:26.00).
On the women’s side Meredith Shultz (Richmond, VA/James River HS) led the women as she was 14th in the 1000 free with a time of 11:16.12. Kara Morrill (Rockville, MD/Rockville HS) placed 15th as she clock in with a freshman record of 11:17.75.
The Catawba men’s swimming team has been named to the College Swim Coaches Association of America all-academic team for the fall semester. The Catawba men posted a 3.09 team GPA and was one of only seven NCAA Division II teams to earn the honor.
