Cook Named SAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week
ROCK HILL, SC -- Catawba College freshman Steffi Cook, of Alpharetta, Ga., has been named the initial South Atlantic Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week for the period extending from Feb. 1 to Feb. 17. Cook helped Catawba split a pair of matches against NCAA I competition.
Cook, a former standout at Milton High School, won both singles matches at the No. 3 position and also added two doubles wins with Meg Kittel at No. 3. In helping the Catawba Indians to a 5-2 win over Winston-Salem State, Cook defeated Gabrielle Benjamin 6-1, 6-1 and won 8-0 in doubles action. In the 5-2 loss to N.C. Central, she won in straight sets over Tati Velazquez 6-2, 6-0 and won at doubles 8-5.
On the season, Cook is 6-1 in singles, including a perfect 5-0 mark at the No. 3 slot. She is 4-1 doubles with a 4-0 record at No. 3.
The SAC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week is selected by a vote of the league’s sports information directors.
