Artem Named Deep South Conference Lacrosse Freshman of the Week
WINGATE, NC -- Catawba College’s Braden Artem (Acton, Ontario, Canada) has been named the Deep South Conference lacrosse Freshman of the Week, announced by the league office on Monday. Wingate’s Greg Williams (Woodbridge, VA) earned Offensive Player of the Week honors and Rollins goalie Zach Cole (Rumford, RI) was named the Defensive Player of the Week.
Artem scored four goals and added two assists as Catawba claimed an 11-3 win at St. Andrews Presbyterian. He scored twice late in the first quarter as Catawba tied the game at 2-2, then added two more goals as the Catawba Indians took the lead for good at 4-3 with a little over nine minutes left in the first half.
In the third frame, Artem added a pair of assists as Catawba increased its lead to 10-4. He also picked up four ground balls. On the season, Artem shares the team lead with 14 goals. He has added three assists.
Williams racked up nine goals and two assists in Wingate’s two games on the week, as the Bulldogs defeated Pfeiffer 17-8 and dropped a 15-9 decision to number four Merrimack. Williams had six goals in the victory over Pfeiffer.
Cole piled up 42 saves as Rollins went 1-1 on the week, defeating Franklin Pierce, while falling to Saint Michael’s. He had 25 saves against the FPU Ravens to help the Tars explode into the lead in the final three minutes of action. Cole had a 74 percent save percentage against FPU.
